ABOUT

Our Story

The Veterans Advisory Group of Lincoln is a group of Veterans helping Veterans.  Known as VAG Lincoln, the purpose of the Veterans Advisory Group of Lincoln is to honor Veterans by providing ongoing events and support.  The Veterans Advisory Group of Lincoln was formed in February of 2009, by Dr. Christine Emler MD and Terry Gillispie, a volunteer from Lincoln, NE. The Group originally met in the old ‘Canteen Room’ on the South end of the old VA Hospital building in Lincoln.  Due to property renovation and closures at the Lincoln VA, most VAG Lincoln events are now held at the Auld Pavilion in Antelope Park, or at other locations throughout the city.

OUR INITIATIVES

Creating Positive Impact

Veteran Events

The VAG provides monthly and annual events to honor, celebrate, entertain and connect veterans in the Lincoln community.

Our events are free to attend.  We focus on community events in easy to access locations that are well attended by veteran organizations, VA representatives and VSOs.  By gathering veterans at these events, we are able to provide updated information and assistance to them and their families to ensure that important updates and information is distributed to those who need it most.  Join us to see who you can connect with.

Healthcare and Community Services

Prioritizing well-being for Veterans and their family through VA and community resources.

We are always available to assist Veterans and their families.  We can assist with connecting you with the appropriate VA Healthcare contacts, community services, county and state service officers and veterans organizations that can assist with unmet needs and available support services.

Benefit Guidance

Navigating support systems can be difficult and overwhelming.  We are here to connect you with the resources that can help.

Navigate through the complexities of veterans benefits with our guidance. We provide detailed assistance and resources to help veterans and their families access the support systems they are entitled to, ensuring they receive the benefits they deserve.  We will connect Veterans and their families with accredited Veteran Service Officers (VSOs) that can help them file claims and access those benefits in a safe, legal and fee free manner.

Community Service and Outreach

Meeting the veteran community where we are most needed.

We are always available to assist Veterans and their families.  We can assist with connecting you with the appropriate VA Healthcare contacts, community services, county and state service officers and veterans organizations that can assist with unmet needs and available support services.

You can find our representatives in your community at events, volunteering at the VA clinic and providing holiday meals to homeless at at-risk veterans and their families.  We use our time and resources to meet with veterans at both veteran focused and community events to raise awareness and inform veterans of the services and support that is available in the Lincoln area.
